POLL: In Ohio Gov. Race, Republican Holds Slim Lead Over Democrat

new poll shows Republican Attorney General Mike DeWine leading Richard Cordray, the former director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, by a four-point margin.

DeWine, who previously served as U.S. Senator from Ohio, leads Cordray 46-42 among registered voters, according to the NBC News/Marist College poll.

Republican Attorney General Mike DeWine had a slight lead on Democratic former federal watchdog Richard Cordray in Tuesday’s poll, with 46 percent saying they supported DeWine and 42 percent saying they supported Cordray. Eleven percent were undecided.

Almost half of respondents – 48 percent – said they were firmly supporting their candidate, including 52 percent of Cordray supporters and 44 percent of DeWine supporters.

The poll was conducted from June 17-22 and has a 4.4-percent margin of error.

A Quinnipiac poll released earlier this month showed DeWine and Cordray virtually tied, with the Democrat slightly ahead, 42-40, well within the poll’s 3.7-percent margin of error.

The NBC News/Marist poll also showed Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) leading Rep. Jim Renacci (R-OH) in the state’s Senate contest, 51-28.
