POLL: McCaskill Goes Underwater on Approval, Net Approval Down 13 Points From 2017

Morning Consult released its quarterly rankings of all 100 U.S. senators by net approval rating, and it’s nothing but bad news for Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-MO).

The vulnerable incumbent is in net negative approval territory for the first time this election cycle, with only 39 percent of Missouri voters approving of her and 44 percent disapproving.

McCaskill’s net approval rating is fourth-worst in the nation, according to Morning Consult. The three senators above her are either not up for reelection this fall (Sens. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and John McCain (R-AZ)), or are retiring from the U.S. Senate (Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ)).

Here’s how McCaskill’s net approval rating has tracked since the beginning of 2017:

Apparently, McCaskill’s awkward waffling – between embracing her work with President Trump and inviting President Obama to come campaign in Missouri – is hurting her standing with constituents and voters.

It’s also not the only bad polling news McCaskill received this week. A new Mason-Dixon poll released Wednesday found the vulnerable senator only has a one-point lead on Attorney General Josh Hawley (R-MO), her high-profile challenger for the U.S. Senate seat in 2018.
