Poll: McSally Up Big in AZ-Sen. Primary

With days to go in the contentious Republican primary to replace Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ), Rep. Martha McSally (R-AZ) is up big on her two opponents.

The Washington Examiner reported on Thursday:

McSally is 26 percentage points ahead of her closest rival, state Sen. Kelli Ward, after Data Orbital found almost a majority of likely voters support her. In comparison, only one in five voters back Ward, a pro-Trump candidate who is also vying for the seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Jeff Flake.

Former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who was pardoned by the president for a contempt of court conviction, is further behind McSally. Just more than 15 percent of those polled told researchers they would cast a ballot for him.

McSally is generally considered to give the GOP their best chance at retaining the Arizona U.S. Senate seat against Rep. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ). McSally has a strong bio and record representing her state. Ward is a state senator and noted conspiracy theorist who was once backed by the now-disgraced Steve Bannon. Arpaio, the former Maricopa County sheriff, was a convicted felon, accused of human rights abuses and racial profiling, before being pardoned by President Trump.
