POLL: Republican Takes the Lead in North Dakota Senate Race

That didn’t take long. Less than two weeks after announcing he would challenge Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND), Rep. Kevin Cramer leads the incumbent in a new poll commissioned by the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC).

Cramer leads Heitkamp, 49-44, according to the poll, which was conducted days after Cramer jumped in the race. Seven percent of respondents said they were undecided.

Roll Call also reported that the poll showed Heitkamp with a significantly higher “unfavorable” ranking among the state’s voters:

The NRSC poll also tested each candidate’s favorability ratings. Fifty-three precent of respondents viewed Cramer favorably compared to 29 percent who had an unfavorable impression. Fifty-four precent had a favorable view of Heitkamp favorably, while 38 percent viewed her unfavorably.

Political prognosticators moved the North Dakota Senate race to a “Toss Up” after Cramer entered the race.

The NRSC poll surveyed 500 likely registered voters and has a margin of error of 4.5 percent.
