Poll: Trump Crushes This Potential GOP Challenger in His Own State

Gov. John Kasich (R-OH), a 2016 candidate for president, has hinted multiple times that he would pursue a challenge to President Trump in the 2020 primary. But a new poll may make the GOP governor reconsider that course of action.

According to a poll from Baldwin Wallace University, Trump would demolish Kasich in a potential primary race in Ohio, Kashich’s home state.

Cincinnati.com reports:

But Trump would have no problem defeating Kasich in his home state, according to a new poll released this week by Baldwin Wallace University’s Community Research Institute.

If the Republican presidential primary were held today, 62 percent of the Republicans polled would vote for Trump. Only 27 percent would vote for Kasich.

The 35-point margin is a 46-point swing from the 2016 Ohio primary, which Kasich won 46.8 to Trump’s 35.6.

As the Cincinnati Enquirer points out, the Ohio governor has made multiple trips to New Hampshire, the country’s first primary state, in a clear attempt to set himself up for a presidential run.

But this poll can assure the president that his Republican nomination would be safe from a Kasich insurgency.
