POLL: Trump Earns Approval for Move to Meet With North Korea’s Kim

More Americans are at ease with the U.S.-North Korea conflict, and more approve of President Trump’s handling of North Korea than they do his handling of other issues, according to new poll results released by CBS News.

The highlights:

But Republicans show a dramatic 19-point drop [from 68 percent to 49 percent] in those who feel uneasy; fewer independents are also less uneasy — by 10 points — though most — 59 percent — still feel uneasy about the possibility of conflict with North Korea.

The president’s approval rating on handling North Korea has risen to 42 percent from where it was in January (34 percent), and the number that now disapprove has dropped.

The poll follows President Trump’s shock announcement last week that he would meet with North Korea’s Kim Jong-un. If he meets with Kim, Trump will be the first U.S. president to meet with a leader of North Korea in history.
