Possible 2020 Dem Pledges No Corporate PAC Donations, Immediately Gets Roasted

Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), an avid tweeter and also a U.S. senator, pledged on Tuesday that he will no longer accept corporate PAC donations.

Booker follows his colleague, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), who also pledged to stop accepting corporate PAC donations on Tuesday. Gillibrand and Booker are both possible 2020 presidential candidates, and not accepting corporate PAC money will close them off to millions of dollars in potential contributions.

Reporters, though, were quick to point out Booker’s hypocrisy. The New York Times‘ Ken Vogel noted that Booker once gladly accepted Wall Street cash:

And Philadelphia Inquirer‘s Andrew Seidman threw some shade at Booker:

America Rising PAC’s Alex Smith pointed out that Gillibrand is not free of hypocrisy on the issue of corporate money, either:

Booker and Gillibrand may start a movement among 2020 Democrats, but it’s easier to make the decision when you’re years away from re-election in a true-blue state than when you’re actually running for office.
