President Trump will be in Springfield, MO on Wednesday in what will be the first in a series of events in which Trump will tout the need for Congress to take up tax reform when it returns from its August recess next week. It could be the latest sign that Trump has learned from the mistakes made during the Obamacare debate.

The Hill reported that the event in Springfield “is expected to make the case for why he believes changes to the tax code are needed to give people a better chance of achieving the American Dream.”

According to a senior White House official who spoke to the reporters on Tuesday:

“The president is going to lay out his vision to bring back Main Street by reducing the crushing tax burden on our companies and our workers and also to restore our competitive advantage by repairing and reforming our badly broken tax code.”

According to The Hill’s reporting:

“Administration officials said that Trump will talk about how middle-class tax cuts will result in American workers seeing bigger paychecks and how he plans to “un-rig” the economy and eliminate benefits for special interests.”

Trump’s tax reform campaigning could be a sign that he’s learned from the mistakes made during the Obamacare repeal and replace debate earlier this year.

Trump notably never held an event rallying support for Obamacare repeal while the legislation was being debated in Congress.

By scheduling a series of events in which he publicly advocates for tax reform, Trump is showing that he is learning how the play the “Washington game,” something that should come as no surprise to those who have read Speaker Newt Gingrich’s new book, “Understanding Trump.”

In “Understanding Trump,” Gingrich goes into great detail about how Trump learns from mistakes and uses these past experiences to overcome his next hurdle.

Gingrich writes:

“Donald Trump learns – when he takes information and does something with it. He tries something, sees how it works, and either continues or switches to something else.”

“This approach has strengths and weaknesses, because he will eventually try things that don’t immediately succeed or are poorly received,” Gingrich explained in “Understanding Trump.” “Our media will be rabid, because it has gotten used to slow-moving, bland, polished government that favors mediocrity over risk.”

Gingrich concluded, though, that “most people will consider this constant evolution and motion to be leadership.”

Based on these scheduled events to tout the need for comprehensive tax reform, it would seem that Gingrich was right in how Trump learns and evolves. This should cause optimism for the American people looking for leadership and businesses that are seeking tax reform.
