Senate Democrats are going home disappointed on Thursday, after the National Archives released documents that Democrats hoped would derail the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh.

Democrats demanded the release of a Special Master report on the Ken Starr investigation, of which Kavanaugh was played a part, thinking that it would implicate the Supreme Court nominee in media leaks.

In a New York Times report this week, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) predicted that the documents would reveal that Kavanaugh had crossed an ethical line:

Democrats said the report could provide important information about Judge Kavanaugh.

“We know Ken Starr played a dangerous game of using the news media to prosecute his case in the court of public opinion, and we know that Brett Kavanaugh was an important part of Starr’s team,” said Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Democrat of Rhode Island. “This report may show us whether Kavanaugh stepped over a critically important line for all prosecutors.”

But the released documents make not a single mention of Kavanugh its 60+ pages.

The White House wasted no time blasting Democrats for attempting to use the documents to stall Kavanaugh’s confirmation process.

“This report refutes the latest false accusation by Senate Democrats and fully exonerates Judge Kavanaugh. Between crowdsourcing baseball fans to attacking his college sports commentary, the left has lost all credibility and is looking more desperate by the day,” White House Deputy Press Secretary Raj Shah said. “Judge Kavanaugh is fair-minded, eminently qualified and will receive a fair hearing beginning September 4th.”
