Mayor Rahm Emanuel (D-Chicago) said that there isn’t evidence to impeach President Trump during an interview with Axios on Monday, and said that impeachment shouldn’t be used by Democrats as a political tool.

Axios’ Mike Allen asked Emanuel whether he thinks impeaching Trump is an issue Democrats should be running on in 2018.

“This is a serious legal and consequential, non-political issue. And my view is, there’s nothing there today that we know” that would result in impeachment, Emanuel said.

Emanuel then said that he “couldn’t be angrier at Donald Trump,” but impeachment “is a legal, constitutional standard. When we get to it, we collectively as a country will know it. As we did with Richard Nixon.”

“People know there’s a standard and that standard hasn’t been met,” Emanuel said. “It’s a constitutional standard, and when that standard’s been met, we’ll know about it.”
