Railroad Engineer: Trump is Right About Infrastructure

The retired railroad expert told MSNBC that infrastructure spending was needed to prevent more accidents from happening.

Robert Bregent, a retired railroad engineer, told MSNBC’s Hallie Jackson on Tuesday that President Trump was right about the need for infrastructure spending in the United States.

While he did not attribute the train crash in Washington state on Monday to infrastructure failures, Bregent warned that America’s ailing roads, bridges, and rails could lead to more tragedies.

“In the local situation, it is not [an infrastructure issue],” he said. “But in general, I agree 100 percent with the president that the infrastructure repair and replace is needed.”

Bregent criticized Congress for cutting funding to Amtrak.

The president tweeted after the accident on Monday that he would submit an infrastructure plan to rebuild America’s transit systems:
