RBG Blasts Kavanaugh Hearings as a ‘Highly Partisan Show’

RBG Blasts Kavanaugh Hearings as a ‘Highly Partisan Show’

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg criticized the Senate Judiciary Committee’s confirmation hearings for President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh on Wednesday, calling them a “highly partisan show.”

Ginsburg made the remarks while speaking at the George Washington University Law School on Wednesday evening.

“The way it was, was right. The way it is, is wrong,” Ginsburg said to a round of applause, according to the Washington Times.

Ginsburg, who was nominated to the Supreme Court in 1993 by former President Bill Clinton and confirmed two months later by a vote of 96 to 3, told the crowd that “the “atmosphere” back then was “truly bipartisan.”

“Think of Justice Scalia, who’s certainly a known character in, what was it? 1986,” Ginsburg said. “The vote was unanimous, every Democrat and every Republican voted for him.”

“That’s the way it should be, instead of what it’s become, which is a highly partisan show. The Republicans move in lockstep, and so do the Democrats. I wish I could wave a magic wand and have it go back to the way it was,” Ginsburg added.

Ginsburg also pointed out that during her confirmation hearing she was never asked about her work for the American Civil Liberties Union.

Senate Democrats repeatedly asked Kavanaugh questions about his time in President George W. Bush’s administration during his confirmation hearing last week.
