The son of Rep. Kevin Cramer (R-ND) passed away Thursday morning, according to a report from The Bismarck Tribune. Isaac Cramer was hospitalized in Bismarck last month and placed in intensive care for liver and kidney failure. He was later transferred to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota where he died.

North Dakota’s lone congressman, who announced last month he would challenge Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) in November, issued a statement on Facebook:

“Kris and I are grateful we were both able to be with our son Isaac Cramer at the Mayo Clinic Methodist Hospital in Rochester this morning as he went to be with Jesus,” Cramer wrote on Facebook. “We were listening to Jeremy Camp singing ‘You’re Worthy of My Praise,’ holding hands, when Ike looked at me and took his last breath on Earth. Now Isaac feels no anxiety or urging for alcohol. He feels no pain and will never be depressed again.”

Numerous public officials in North Dakota offered their public condolences to Cramer and his family.

Sen. John Hoeven (R-ND): “We are truly saddened to hear of Isaac’s passing,” he said in a statement. “We know this is a very difficult time for the Cramer family and we pray for God’s blessing on them. Mikey and I extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to Kevin, his wife Kris and their entire family.”

Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND): “Our hearts are with Rep. Cramer, Kris and the rest of the Cramer family as they mourn the loss of their son, Isaac. Please join Kathryn and I in keeping the family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

Sen. Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND): “My heart goes out to Rep. Cramer, Kris, and his entire family. No parent should have to bury a child,” she said in a statement. “The support of those throughout our state and the grace of God will help lift them up during this difficult time. My thoughts and prayers are with them.”
