REPORT: Biden Advisers Consider O’Rourke As Possible 2020 Running Mate

Senior advisers to former vice president and 2020 hopeful Joe Biden have started to float failed Texas Senate candidate Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) as a possible running mate in an attempt to alleviate concerns about Biden’s age, according to the Associated Press.

Former and current advisers to Biden, who is 76 years-old, have expressed some concern about his age and have begun to quietly suggest the possibility of partnering with O’Rourke, who is 47 years-old.

Biden himself has even said that questions about his age in 2020 are “totally legitimate.”

According to the Associated Press:

“Past and current advisers to Biden have held frequent conversations about options to alleviate concerns about age, including teaming him with a younger running mate. One option that has been floated, according to a source with knowledge of the talks, is outgoing Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke, who at 46 has become the subject of intense 2020 speculation after nearly beating GOP Sen. Ted Cruz.”

A potential Biden/O’Rourke ticket in 2020 would be formidable, as a recent CNN/Des Moines Register poll showed the pair in first and third place, respectively.

Biden has not formally announced his intention to run for president in 2020 but “is expected to decide in January or February whether to seek the White House,” according to the Associated Press.
