Report: Clinton Used ‘Deplorable’ in Private Multiple Times

A new book from New York Times reporter Amy Chozick reveals that Hillary Clinton’s “deplorables” gaffe was nothing of the sort, but it was rather a planned, repeated insult she hurled at Donald Trump’s supporters with some regularity.

According to The Daily Beast’s review of the book, Clinton repeatedly used the descriptor to hit a significant portion of the Trump electorate. It “was no slip of the tongue,” Chozick wrote, and she often described Trump supporters as belonging to three different groups.

One group were Republicans who simply hated her, another group were people who felt the government let them down, and the last group was the “deplorables.”

Clinton often did the bit for her elite friends, but she did not reveal her feelings publicly until late in the campaign:

“The Deplorables always got a laugh, over living-room chats in the Hamptons, at dinner parties under the stars on Martha’s Vineyard, over passed hors d’oeuvres in Beverly Hills, and during sunset cocktails in Silicon Valley,” Chozick continues.

“‘I really messed up,’ [Clinton] told aides that night,” Chozick writes of the evening when the candidate’s Deplorables shtick went public.

The “deplorables” comment may have been a real knee-slapper at coastal cocktail parties, but the forgotten men and women of middle America got the last laugh on Election Day.
