Report: Iranian Diplomat Arrested in Bomb Plot Against Giuliani-Attended Meeting

According to a Monday report from Reuters, Belgian police arrested two suspected terrorists with “home-made explosive[s]” in their car as they planned to head to Paris and bomb a meeting of the National Council Resistance of Iran (NCRI). President Trump’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, was in attendance, along with several European ministers.

Police in Germany arrested an Iranian diplomat, who was in Europe serving at the Vienna embassy. French police arrested another person linked to the attempted attack.

The attack would have hit the NCRI’s Paris meeting, striking at one of the leading Iranian, anti-Ayatollah groups among the country’s diaspora:

Its meeting, which attracted a crowd of thousands, took place on Saturday in Villepinte, just outside of Paris, a three-hour drive from Brussels.

“A plot by the religious dictatorship ruling Iran to carry out a terrorist attack against the grand gathering of the Iranian Resistance in Villepinte was foiled,” Shahin Gobadi spokesman for NCRI said in a statement.

It is a sobering reminder to the European Union, which remains in the Iranian nuclear deal, that Iran is the leading state-sponsor of terror in the world.

President Trump left the deal in May, and National Security Adviser John Bolton threatened to sanction European companies that do business with the Iranian regime. A potential bomb attack on European soil will only serve as further motivation for Europeans to withdraw from the agreement.
