The Kansas City Chiefs’ released their star running back Kareem Hunt after video surfaced on Friday of Hunt in February physically assaulting a woman.

Both the Chiefs and the NFL knew about the incident and about the existence of the tape before the NFL season started in September, but an NFL investigation into the incident found that Hunt wasn’t involved.

However, ESPN is now reporting that the NFL never interviewed Hunt or the victim in the course of their investigation.

“The league, in its investigation of Kareem Hunt, never spoke to Kareem Hunt, the perpetrator of this particular situation,” ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported. “It also made numerous attempts to reach out to the woman involved and could not get in touch with her. So in this investigation, the league never got ahold of Kareem Hunt, never spoke to him, and never spoke to the woman involved.”

Schefter noted that the league did interview people who witnessed the incident, but those witnesses told the league that Hunt wasn’t involved.

“But the bottom line…The league, in its investigation of Kareem Hunt never interviewed Kareem Hunt and never interviewed the woman involved,” Schefter said.

Showing surprise at this news, ESPN’s Sam Ponder said to Schefter, “That’s not an investigation.”
