Report Suggests Feinstein/Dem Requests for Kavanaugh Records Nothing More Than Stalling Tactic

The front page of Monday’s San Francisco Chronicle says all one needs to know about the broad Democratic requests for records related to Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s time in the Bush administration.

“Senate Dems plan to stall on Trump’s court choice.”

The piece, by Bob Egelko, exposes the tactics of Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) – the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee who’s vulnerable to a far-left challenger in this fall’s election – and her colleagues as nothing more than an effort to delay the Kavanaugh hearings and vote to beyond Election Day.

Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to fill a crucial U.S. Supreme Court seat is headed toward a Senate confirmation vote — but how fast it gets there will be determined by whether outnumbered Democrats succeed in a tactic that could postpone a decision until after the midterm elections.

…But if Democrats succeed in both putting off a vote on Kavanaugh and prevailing in an election in which they’re defending more Senate seats than Republicans, the nomination could be in trouble.

Even the liberal editorial board of The Washington Post argued, on Sunday evening, that Republicans and Democrats can come to “an acceptable compromise” on Kavanaugh’s paper trail that doesn’t require reviewing every email that Kavanaugh was ever copied on (as Democrats demand).

Mr. Cornyn’s words suggest that there should be an acceptable compromise between a massive document dump and no disclosure at all of Mr. Kavanaugh’s staff secretary papers.

Feinstein and many of her colleagues, though, sound like they won’t support Kavanaugh at any point – no matter how many documents he or the Bush presidential library produces. Their effort to drag out the confirmation process reads as cynical at best.
