Report: Trump Prepared to Strike Syria Again, if Necessary

The U.S. is ready to strike Syria again if Bashar al-Assad continues to use chemical weapons, a senior administration official told Roll Call this weekend.

John Bennett reported:

President Donald Trump is prepared to again strike Syria if its president, Bashar Assad, launches another chemical weapons attack, a senior administration official said Saturday.

“If this act does not succeed, we will act again,” the senior official said, referring to Friday night’s cruise missile strikes on Syrian government targets.

President Trump announced joint U.S.-U.K.-France airstrikes on Assad’s chemical weapons facilities last week.

NTK Network reported:

In a spontaneous announcement, the president told the American people that his administration would not stand for the use of chemical weapons by rogue regimes.

…The president stressed that the United States would continue to enforce its red line of WMD use, and he reminded the world that he launched similar strikes last year, when Assad’s regime also committed crimes against humanity with chemical weapons.

The administration’s confirmation to Roll Call, that further airstrikes are on the table, would seem to confirm that Trump is prepared to “continue to enforce” his red line in Syria.
