Report: Trump’s Daughter-in-Law Hospitalized After Receiving Package With ‘Unknown Substance’

NBC 4, the local New York NBC affiliate, reported Monday that an “unknown substance” was mailed to President Trump’s daughter-in-law, Vanessa Trump, and she was hospitalized after coming into contact with the substance.

Vanessa Trump, the wife of Donald Trump, Jr., owns the targeted apartment, and she was hospitalized after coming into contact with the substance, according to Bloomberg:

Police say Donald Trump Jr.’s wife opened an envelope that contained white powder, felt ill and has been taken to New York City hospital.

They say Vanessa Trump called 911 Monday morning after opening a letter addressed to Donald Trump Jr. at their midtown Manhattan apartment. Police say she said she was coughing and felt nauseous.

Authorities do not believe the substance to be hazardous, “but investigators are conducting a thorough probe out of an abundance of caution,” NBC reported.

According to the report, three people went to the hospital for “observation,” but there was “no indication they suffered any injuries and their identities were not immediately released.”

The mailing of unidentified substances has sparked concern among counterterrorism officials since the 2001 mail-based anthrax attacks that killed five Americans.

Despite the belief that the substance was not threatening, first responders are taking every precaution. “De-contamination efforts were undertaken and police and other emergency units remained on the scene Monday afternoon,” NBC reported.
