Reps. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) and Elijah Cummings (D-MD) announced at a joint press conference on Tuesday that they believe former National Security Advisor Mike Flynn’s monetary ties to Russia and Turkey may have violated the law.

Chaffetz is the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, and Cummings is the ranking member.

“As a former military officer, you simply cannot take money from Russia, Turkey, or anybody else,” Chaffetz said. “And it appears [Flynn] did take that money.”

“It was inappropriate and there are repercussions for the violation of law,” he added.

Cummings called on the Trump administration to release documents related to Flynn’s security clearance application, calling the White House’s current refusal to comply “unacceptable.”

According to documents the committee has already obtained, Cummings said, Flynn failed to disclose his income from trips to Russia.

“General Flynn filed his SF-86 about a month after he traveled to Moscow,” Cummings said, referencing the security clearance application. “However, there is no evidence, as the chairman said, anywhere in these documents that reported the funds he received for the trip.”
