Republican Fred Keller “cruised to victory” on Tuesday, according to a report by the PA Post. Keller ran to replace former Rep. Tom Marino (R-PA), who announced his resignation just days after being sworn in for a fifth term.

Keller, a state representative, previously worked as a plant operations manager at a specialty wood company in Snyder County. He defeated Marc Friedenberg, a lawyer and cyber security instructor at Penn State University. Friedenberg ran and also lost to Marino in November.

The Associated Press called the race for Keller just before 10 p.m.

Keller’s victory came just one day after Trump visited the state with a rally in Montoursville. Trump also recorded a robocall message for Keller:

“I need you to get out and vote for Fred Keller, a great guy who will help me keep America great,” Trump said in the message. “As a state representative, Fred fought against tax increases, supported our vets, and stood up for our 2nd Amendment rights.”

While the GOP victory in Pennsylvania’s 12th Congressional District was important, it wasn’t particularly surprising. The district is heavily Republican, and Keller was expected to win. The victory maintains Republicans’ numbers in the House and will give Republicans a basis to maintain the seat in 2020.
