Florida Gov. Rick Scott, the 2018 Republican senatorial candidate, is suing the supervisors of elections in Broward and Palm Beach counties for failing to provide information to officials regarding ballot counting, a violation of federal and state laws. The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) joined Scott in the lawsuit.

Specifically, Scott and the NRSC allege that the officials are “unwilling to disclose records revealing how many electors voted, how many ballots have been canvassed, and how many ballots remain to be canvassed.”

In a conversation with reporters, Scott decried “rampant fraud,” which he says is occurring in the two notoriously liberal counties.

“Every day since the election the left-wing activists in Broward County have been coming up with more and more ballots out of nowhere,” Scott told reporters. …

“I will not sit idly by while unethical liberals try and steal this election from the great people of Florida,” Scott told reporters Thursday.

The lawsuit names as defendant Broward County Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes and Palm Beach Supervisor of Elections Susan Bucher.

This is not Snipes’ first run-in with the law over her job. A judge ruled in May that she illegally destroyed ballots in 2016, as well.

The Broward County Supervisor of Elections Office violated state and federal laws by destroying ballots from a 2016 Congressional race too soon — and while the ballots were the subject of a lawsuit against the office, a judge has ruled.

The result of that ruling was Florida’s Department of State officials supervising Snipes’ operation in 2018.

Scott is currently ahead in the state-wide vote count, and his opponent, Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL), supports a recount. He labeled Scott’s actions “desperate.”
