Rick Scott to Bill Nelson: You Sold Your Kavanaugh Vote to Chuck Schumer

Gov. Rick Scott (R-FL) unloaded on Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL), the man he’s hoping to unseat in this year’s U.S. Senate race in Florida, for announcing he would vote against confirming Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Nelson’s announcement of his intention to vote surprised almost no one, and came one day after Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and Kavanaugh testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday to address her allegations of sexual assault against the judge.

“I will vote no on Judge Kavanaugh,” Nelson tweeted early Friday.

“This is not news,” Scott replied in a tweet later Friday morning. “This was always the case. You were always going to do exactly what your party leaders told you to do. You decided no before you even knew who the nominee was.”

Driving the point home further, Scott added: “Your vote does not even belong to you – it belongs to @SenSchumer,” the Twitter handle for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).

Scott and Nelson are locked in one of the closest Senate contests in the country this year. Numerous polls have shown the two tied or within the polls’ margins of error.
