Gov. Rick Scott, the Republican challenging Sen. Bill Nelson’s (D-FL) Senate seat in Florida, announced his campaign raised a whopping $3.2 million in just the first three weeks of his candidacy.

Scott entered the Senate race in the final three weeks of the Federal Election Commission’s first quarter reporting period. But in those three weeks, Scott just about the same amount as Nelson, who pulled in $3.2 million in the first quarter. But Nelson’s 2018 Q1 number was his best ever, according to Politico:

Scott’s campaign is touting the number because it was the amount Nelson raised over the first three months of 2018. It was the three-term senator’s biggest single quarter.

Earlier this month, Politico reported on a fundraising scheme being used by the Nelson campaign to help boost his numbers:

That money came from thousands of individual donors, but also through lucrative funding agreements he has with the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee and a host of Senate Democrats also facing tough election fights in states won in 2016 by President Donald Trump.

Nelson inked a formal joint fundraising agreement with the DSCC a year ago; so far this election cycle it has netted his campaign nearly $35,000. Under the agreement, Nelson has helped raise over $200,000 for the DSCC.

Between Scott’s personal wealth and proven ability to fundraise, Nelson will need all the help he can get to stay competitive in the expensive advertising state of Florida.
