San Francisco-Area Restaurant Won’t Serve People Wearing MAGA Hats

"If you come to my restaurant wearing a MAGA cap, you aren’t getting served, same as if you come in wearing a swastika..."

The owner of a San Francisco restaurant called Wursthall announced that his restaurant would not serve anyone who came in wearing a Make America Great Again (MAGA) hat and compared Americans who wear the hat to Nazis and members of the Ku Klux Klan.

“Make America Great Again” was President Donald Trump’s campaign slogan during the 2016 campaign, and supporters of Trump still often wear their MAGA hats to show their support of the president.

“A Bay area restaurant is making headlines this morning for a tweet sent out by its owner, who wrote anyone who came in wearing a ‘Make America Great Again’ hat would be shown the door,” CBS San Francisco’s Michelle Griego reported.

“It hasn’t happened yet, but if you come to my restaurant wearing a MAGA cap, you aren’t getting served, same as if you come in wearing a swastika, white hood, or any other symbol of intolerance and hate,” J. Kenji López-Alt the owner of Wursthall tweeted earlier this week.

The restaurant owner has since deleted the tweet.

Juan Hernandez, a California Republican, told CBS San Francisco that the tweet reminded him of when he was attacked for wearing a MAGA hat in 2016.

“It’s a shame that he did it because we’re trying to be inclusive with everybody and have open communication, and that just shuts it down right there,” Hernandez said.

CBS San Francisco reported that since the owner sent the tweet, Wursthall’s Facebook page and Yelp had been bombarded by bad reviews.
