Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) compared President Trump’s use of the United States military to prevent illegal immigrants from entering the southern U.S. border to how authoritarian dictators use their military during an interview on ABC’s “The View” on Monday.

“The View’s” Sunny Hostin asked Sanders what he thought about Trump’s use of the military along the southern border, citing how some members of Trump’s Cabinet didn’t want to grant Trump this authority initially.

“Given the nature of the president, who I think has strong authoritarian tendencies, who seems to love people like Mr. Putin and the crowned prince of Saudi Arabia, and the leader of North Korea,” Sanders began, “I worry very much about, for the first time, using the military in that way in this country. So I think that is a very legitimate concern.”

Sanders added that the real issue is that the United States needs comprehensive immigration reform.
