Sanders Embraces Dem Party’s Move to Single-Payer: ‘It’s a Step’

Democratic socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) thinks the Democratic Party just took a meaningful “step” toward his support for single-payer health care.

The Hill reported on Monday that Sanders called a Center for American Progress (CAP) proposal expanding Medicare a “step” in his direction on health care.

Asked if he thinks the plan from the Center for American Progress (CAP), which comes very close to Sanders’s signature idea of “Medicare for all,” shows the Democratic Party is moving his way, Sanders told The Hill, “Yes, I do.”

…”I believe in a Medicare for all, single-payer, but to the degree that people are talking about guaranteeing health care to all people, it’s a step.”

Shortly before The Hill reported Sanders’ comments, NTK Network reported on a new poll of American voters that shows they want Democrats to tackle health care if they retake control of government in 2021.

NTK pointed out that the minority party’s growing support for single-payer may complicate their push to win back the House, Senate, and White House in the 2020 election, given Americans’ support for single-payer drops when they find out they would lose their own health plan as a result.
