Sanders Raises Over $6 Million in a Day

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) raised over $6 million in the first 24 hours after officially lunching his 2020 presidential campaign, proving that Sanders will be a formidable force in the 2020 Democratic presidential primary.

The self-described democratic socialist Sanders announced that he would be running for president again in 2020 after almost pulling off the impossible and nearly defeating Hillary Clinton in the 2016 Democratic presidential primary.

The Hill reported on Sanders’ fundraising breakdown when his campaign reported having raised over $4 million in less than 12 hours on Tuesday:

Sanders raised the money from almost 150,000 individual donors in all 50 states, the campaign said in a press release. The average donation amounted to $27, mirroring that of the 2016 campaign.

Now NBC News’ Alex Seitz-Wald is reporting that Sanders’ campaign has raised over $6 million since announcing:

That could be more money than the other Democratic presidential candidates raised combined in their first 24 hours.

Sen. Kamala Harris’ (D-CA) campaign raised $1.5 million on its first day, while Sen. Amy Klobuchar’s (D-MN) “reported raising $1 million in the 48 hours after launching her campaign this month,” according to the Associated Press.

Fellow ‘progressive’ presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) raised a meager $299,000 in the first 24 hours of her presidential exploratory committee.

Other candidates like Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) have not reported their fundraising totals yet.

With $6 million raised in 24 hours, Sanders proved yet again that he is the most prolific fundraiser in the Democratic presidential primary. And with such a crowded field, that’s a very important asset for a successful campaign to have.
