Schumer: I Don’t Have Faith in AG Barr’s View of the Mueller Report

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said that he didn’t have “much faith” in the conclusions that Attorney General William Barr drew from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation during an event in Rochester, New York on Monday.

Over Sunday, Barr sent a summary to congressional leaders of Mueller’s investigation into whether President Trump’s 2016 campaign colluded with Russia to influence the election.

According to Barr’s memo, Mueller’s investigation found no evidence of collusion, and Barr concluded that “Mueller did not establish that Trump committed the crime of obstruction of justice.”

“I don’t have that much faith in Attorney General Barr’s view because he already had stated that he believes that it’s very, very – that a president almost never commits obstruction, even before he took this job,” Schumer said. “So, he’s not a neutral observer, and his position should rest until we get all of the facts.”

“Congress requires the full report and underlying documents so we can get an independent view and do our job of oversighting and legislating the issues that the Mueller report brings up,” Schumer said.
