Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) refused to address the controversy surrounding former President Bill Clinton and the #MeToo movement during an interview on Wednesday.

CNN’s Chris Cuomo asked Schumer about recent comments Clinton made regarding the #MeToo movement during an interview with NBC’s Craig Melvin that sparked controversy.

“Not getting into that,” Schumer said.

Cuomo pressed Schumer why he wouldn’t address the controversy.

“I think it’s irrelevant to what we need to talk about,” Schumer said. “Me Too is important. What Bill Clinton said, the public can judge for themselves.”

“How are both of those things true at the same time, senator,” Cuomo asked.

“They’re true at the same time, because you judge the person by their own actions, plain and simple,” Schumer said. “What we have done, we passed a good bill in the Senate, bipartisan, that really dealt with the kind of problems that we saw in the Senate. That’s what we should be doing.”

“Not commenting on everybody and every particular case. That doesn’t help the cause. It may make nice news, but it doesn’t help the cause,” Schumer said.
