Second Oregon Ed Board Calls for Halt to Cap and Trade Effort

A second major editorial board in Oregon is speaking out against the rushed effort by some to pass California-style cap-and-trade in the state in 2018.

The Bend Bulletin wrote, “Oregonians deserve better” than the last-ditch, desperate ‘cap now, trade later‘ proposal by Rep. Tina Kotek (D-Portland), the speaker of the House.

The Bulletin‘s board wrote:

Oregonians deserve better. They deserve a Legislature that will deliberate and take responsibility for a program that will have impacts on businesses and Oregonian who will pay more for everything from gasoline to electricity because of it. If lawmakers insist on cap and invest, they must do it right. That means killing Kotek’s proposed changes to the bill and tackling the issue in a more deliberative way in 2019.

Like The Oregonian before it, the Bulletin is hardly a conservative paper. The board endorsed Hillary Clinton for president in 2016, and even they think cap-and-trade efforts should be put on pause.
