Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is headed back to North Korea this week – his third such trip to the reclusive nation this year alone – as U.S. and North Korea peace talks continue and a potential second summit looms between President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Reuters reported:

Pompeo will spend a day and a half in North Korea on Friday and Saturday on what will be his third trip to the country this year, and his first since an unprecedented summit between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore on June 12.

Reuters also noted that the goal for denuclearization has shifted from “complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization” (CVID) to “final, fully verified denuclearization,” an apparent concession to North Korea.

It says pressure will remain until North Korea denuclearizes, but in statements this week, has redefined the U.S. goal as “the final, fully verified denuclearization of (North Korea) as agreed to by Chairman Kim.”

Pompeo’s visit may produce a commitment to or announcement of another Trump-Kim summit. NTK Network noted earlier this week that some reports indicate Trump may want to hold a second summit on his home turf in New York City.
