Sen. King: There’s Not Enough Evidence to Impeach Trump

"My concern is that if impeachment is moved forward on the evidence that we have now, at least a third of the country would think it was just political revenge"

Sen. Angus King (I-ME), who caucuses with the Senate Democrats, said that there is not enough evidence yet available to the public for House Democrats to begin impeaching President Donald Trump during an interview on Sunday.

NBC’s Chuck Todd asked King whether he had seen enough from the investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia for Congress to open an impeachment inquiry into Trump.

“I don’t think so,” King said. “I think impeachment is totally different from criminal prosecution.”

“Impeachment essentially, Chuck, is a political issue,” King added. “I don’t think that there’s evidence yet available to the public where there would be more or less a consensus that this was an appropriate path.”

“My concern is that if impeachment is moved forward on the evidence that we have now, at least a third of the country would think it was just political revenge and a coup against the president,” King said. “The best way to solve a problem like this is elections.”
