Senate Democrats Are Now Calling for Al Franken’s Resignation

Almost three weeks after the first woman came forward to accuse Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) of sexual assault, six of Franken’s Democratic colleagues are calling on Franken to resign from the Senate immediately.

Senators Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Mazie Hirono (D-HI), Claire McCaskill (D-MO), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Patty Murray (D-WA), and Kamala Harris (D-CA) all released statements calling for Franken’s resignation on Wednesday.

This comes after Politico reported on a seventh accuser, a congressionl aide, who said Franken forcibly attempted to kiss her 11 years ago. Franken has denied the allegation.

Franken has been accused by six other women of groping or trying to kiss them forcibly and said at a news conference in November that he couldn’t say that more accusers wouldn’t come forward, following the initial allegations of sexual assault.
