Shutdown Fallout: Deployed U.S. Troops Won’t See Sunday’s NFL Games

American troops deployed overseas will likely be the first to feel the negative impact of the government shutdown as they will not be able to watch the AFC and NFC championship games on Sunday.

The United States government officially shut down at midnight on Friday after Democrats in the United States Senate failed to vote for a continuing resolution at the behest of Schumer.

The American Forces Network, which provides TV to U.S. military, tweeted that due to the government shutdown, programming would not be available.

CNN’s Jim Sciutto‏ explained that this would mean U.S. troops would not be able to view the conference championship games on Sunday:

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders slapped Democrats with a tweet regarding the NFL games earlier on Saturday.

During championship games in the past, networks have shown live shots of U.S. military at various bases around the world enjoying the games.

But now, because of Senate Democrats’ obstruction, U.S. troops who put themselves in harm’s way to defend American values will not be able to enjoy watching the NFL’s conference championships.
