SIREN: Are Senate Democrats in Trouble in Blue New Jersey?

Sen. Bob Menendez has a razor thin 4-point lead over his likely Republican challenger according to a Fairleigh Dickinson University poll released on Friday.

The poll shows that 28 percent of registered voters in New Jersey support Menendez while 24 percent support Menendez’s likely Republican challenger, Bob Hugin.

Last year, Menendez beat federal bribery charges in court but received “bipartisan admonishment,” from the Senate Ethics Committee.

The poll found that 39 percent of those surveyed said that they viewed Menendez unfavorably, while only 32 percent said they viewed him favorably.

Senate Democrats are already defending 10 states in 2018 that President Donald Trump won in 2016. If they are forced to defend Menendez in New Jersey as well, that will divert precious resources and might not bode well for their chances of retaking the Senate in November.
