SLF President: Republicans Will Effectively Talk About Trump’s Record in 2018

"I think we've got an economy that's resurgent. I think he's achieving some real foreign policy goals," Steven Law said, about President Trump's record.

Steven Law, the president and CEO of the Senate Leadership Fund (SLF), a group promoting GOP U.S. Senate candidates, said Wednesday that those candidates will be able to effectively talk about President Trump’s record in the 2018 midterm elections.

Law made the comments during an interview on NPR’s “Morning Edition.” NPR’s David Green asked Law if Trump’s record is a good thing for Republicans to run on this fall.

“I think we’ve got an economy that’s resurgent. I think he’s achieving some real foreign policy goals, and those are going to be things that we can talk about effectively, in addition to tax reform and how it’s improving people’s lives,” Law said.

Law did admit that, in Republican Senate primaries:

“Washington is the enemy. If you run against Washington that’s an effective strategy. Not only in primaries, probably in general elections as well.”

Green also asked Law if he thinks the upcoming midterm elections will be a referendum on Trump’s conduct in office.

“I think that’s something we could probably expect this time around,” Law said. “One thing I would note is that we’ve been reading so many stories about this gigantic blue wave that’s going to hit elections this fall. We’ve stopped looking at some of the contrary indications.”

Law then touted Trump’s improving job approval numbers, and how Republicans have closed the gap on the generic ballot in recent months.
