Jaime Harris, the former South Carolina Democratic Party chairman who ran unsuccessfully for DNC chair in 2017, announced Wednesday morning he is running to challenge Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) for his U.S. Senate seat.

Harrison’s campaign released a three-minute comic-book-style video on Twitter to announce his Senate bid.

“I may not be a superhero, but I am a proud South Carolinian, and I’m ready to fight for a better future for our state and our country,” Harrison tweeted.

It’s been more than two decades since a Democrat represented the Palmetto State in the U.S. Senate, and Harrison’s bid faces long odds. Since President Trump was sworn in, Graham has demonstrated his loyalty to this administration and an ability to distance himself when circumstances dictate it’s necessary.

Over the past two years, Graham fiercely defended Brett Kavanaugh, Trump’s second Supreme Court appointee, went on a nationwide tour to protect Republican incumbents in 2018, and criticized Trump’s rivals.

Graham, 63, is currently serving his third term in the Senate. Harrison, 43, worked for Rep. James Clyburn (R-SC) and was a lobbyist for the Podesta Group.
