White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said at a press briefing Thursday that an unsuccessful UN Security Council Resolution condemning the chemical attack in Syria showed Russia’s increasing global isolation.

“I think China’s abstention [on the resolution] is a significant win for the President,” Spicer said.

“It continues to show how Russia is isolated on this particular matter,” he added.

Spicer called the Trump’s ability to convince China and Khazakstan to vote against Russia “a huge win for the United States.”

Russia vetoed the resolution on Wednesday, only receiving support from Bolivia in their opposition. China and Khazakstan, traditional allies of the Kremlin, abstained from the vote. China had previously vetoed six resolutions on Syria.
