On her show on Wednesday, MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle praised the GOP-led effort to repeal banking regulations that were previously strangling small and mid-sized banks.

“This is a really good idea,” Ruhle said. “When Dodd-Frank was put into place, it brushed every bank in the same way and [smaller banks] were subject to regulatory capture.”

The MSNBC host said that super-sized banks could afford to deal with the regulations, but smaller banks could not compete.

“If you need a loan, and you run a small business in all different parts of the country, you couldn’t get it, because the J.P. Morgans of the world, they’re not interested in doing business with you,” she said.

Ruhle pointed out that former Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA), one of the original architects of the law, supports the changes.

CNBC’s John Harwood agreed with Ruhle. “This is not a repeal of Dodd-Frank in any way,” he said.
