Billionaire Democratic megadonor Tom Steyer dodged on whether he would hold Democrats accountable on impeaching President Trump during a PBS interview on Saturday.

Steyer spent more than $110 million during the 2018 midterm elections to get Democrats elected, $50 million of which was spent on Steyer’s impeachment campaign against Trump.

PBS’ Margaret Hoover asked Steyer whether he planned on holding Democrats accountable on the issue of impeachment.

“We are going to try and build the voice of the American people and let the American people hold him accountable,” Steyer said. “The only way that this will happen, as I said, this has to be a nonpartisan thing.”

Hoover pressed Steyer on how many Republicans have signed his impeachment petition. Steyer estimated that 10 to 15 percent of the petition’s signatures were from Republicans.

Hoover followed up by asking Steyer again what he was going to do to hold Democrats accountable.

“We’re going to try to continue to put out the information so Americans can figure out what’s right,” Steyer said.

“Am I sensing a change in your strategy,” Hoover asked Steyer.

“No, this has always been [about] education. This has always been about getting Americans to see this together,” Steyer responded.

Hoover pressed Steyer on whether he had changed tactics, a theory that Steyer denied.

“What will drive [impeachment] is two things: events and the will of the American people,” Steyer said. “I don’t believe that this is a question of convincing elected officials that all of a sudden what we’re saying is right. They already know we’re right.”
