Steyer: I Don’t Give Money to the DNC Because They Haven’t Protected Dreamers

"The reason we stopped was they swore they'd stand up for the Dreamers, and they walked away," Steyer said Tuesday night in North Carolina.

Billionaire and liberal activist Tom Steyer said that he refuses to give money to organizations like the Democratic National Committee (DNC) because they have not lived up to their promise of protecting Dreamers during a town hall in North Carolina on Tuesday.

A participant at the town hall asked Steyer about a $30 million donation that Sheldon Adelson gave to the Congressional Leadership Fund (CLF). The questioner wanted to know when Steyer planned to bankroll the DNC.

“It was worse than you just said. Because actually Trump walked away from the Iran treaty and moved the embassy to Jerusalem, and Sheldon Adelson gave the RNC $30 million the next day. So, there is something going on here that is very scary and very dangerous,” Steyer said.

In fact, Adelson did not donate $30 million to the Republican National Committee but rather to the Congressional Leadership Fund, an organization closely associated with Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI).

The $30 million donation that Steyer criticized is no different than the $30 million donation that Steyer made to his own political organization, NextGen America, or the $40 million Steyer gave to his “Need to Impeach” campaign.

Steyer then explained why he doesn’t donate to the DNC, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) or the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC)

“We don’t give the money to the Democratic National Committee,” Steyer said. “The reason we stopped was they swore they’d stand up for the Dreamers, and they walked away.”
