Former Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D-VA) said that he would decide whether he would run for president in 2020 by the end of March, during an interview on Monday.

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews asked McAuliffe what the Democrats’ position was regarding America’s border security, if they aren’t for open borders.

McAuliffe told Matthews that everyone wants a secure border before going into a lengthy response attacking Trump for promising that Mexico would pay for the wall along America’s southern border.

“Are you running for president? You sound like it,” Matthews interjected.

“I’ve been very consistent on the things that I believe in. I have been a strong Democrat my whole life,” McAuliffe said. “We, as Democrats, we got to have a message out there.”

McAuliffe then touted his record as governor of Virginia, calling it a progressive state with a booming economy.

Matthews pressed McAuliffe for a date when he would decide whether to run for president.

“By the end of the first quarter,” McAuliffe responded.
