The 4 Most Brutal Democrat Reactions to Biden’s Potential 2020 Bid

Reuter’s Ginger Gibson collected a series of quotes from Democrats across the country about a potential presidential run by former Vice President Joe Biden. The Delaware native leads in every national poll and virtually all of the state-based polls, but how deep does his support go?

Should Biden decide to run, he might find pockets – if not large swaths – of his party just not willing to back him. The reasons likely vary: he’s too old, past policies he supported are out of step with the current party, or voters just prefer other candidates.

No matter the reasons, Gibson appears to have found quite a bit of resistance to a Biden 2020 campaign. Check out the four most brutal quotes from Democrats below:

Wish he were president now, not in 2021

“I love Joe Biden. He’s a great guy and a great politician,” said Jerry Shriner, a Democratic national committee member from Idaho. “I wish he were the president right now. But I’m not sure I wish he is president in 2021.”

Other candidates

“The longer he waits, the more people are going to start to want to follow some of the new and younger voices they’re hearing,” said Bret Niles, the Democratic Party chairman in Linn County, Iowa.

Too old

“Joe Biden is too old,” said Mary Donough, 60, a Democrat from Des Moines, Iowa, who plans to participate in her state’s crucial primary caucus next year and wants a younger candidate to challenge Trump.

“There is just more energy there,” she said.

Out of step

“Times have changed,” said Adam Green, chairman of the Progressive Change Campaign Committee. “Does he meet the moment?”
