Four U.S. senators, three Republicans and one Democrat, met Thursday evening to review testimony given by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and Judge Brett Kavanaugh. Ford has accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault during a high school party in the 1980s. Kavanaugh vehemently denies the charge.

Sens. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Jeff Flake (R-AZ), Susan Collins (R-ME), and Joe Manchin (D-WV) met in a Senate “hideaway” Thursday night and discussed how they might vote. One of them, Flake, sits on the Senate Judiciary Committee and must vote Friday morning to move Kavanaugh’s nomination to the full Senate for a vote.

An additional senator, Joe Donnelly (D-IN), is expected to vote in lockstep with Manchin, Murkowski, and Collins, per Politico’s Burgess Everett. It’s not yet clear if that vote would be in the affirmative or negative.

But one detail, reported by The Atlantic’s Elaina Plott, could indicate that Kavanaugh may get confirmed after all. According to a source close to Manchin, the West Virginia senator, “Manchin likes Kavanaugh and has always wanted to find a way to support him.”

Still, a spokesman for Manchin said the senator is currently undecided.
