The DCCC Still Proudly Accepts Lobbyist & Corporate PAC Money. Where is the Left’s Outrage?

Money from corporate political action committees (PACs) and registered lobbyists is rolling into the campaign coffers for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC).

That fact isn’t necessarily news, but Democrats in recent years have increasingly called out the elimination of this kind of cash from politics. Lacking the power to ban it completely, many liberals have personally pledged that their campaigns will not accept this money.

But the DCCC has decided to play by another set of rules. According to a new report from the Daily Beast, the House Democrats’ campaign arm raised $1.93 million from 143 corporate PACs in the first quarter of 2019. That’s a significant jump from previous election cycles, per the report.

And that’s not all. Lobbyists are stepping up their game for the DCCC as well:

Lobbyist fundraisers are also ponying up for the DCCC. In the first three months of the year, eight registered federal lobbyists “bundled” more than $1.2 million in contributions for the committee. That’s nearly double the total during the same period last cycle, and nearly 40 times the DCCC’s lobbyist bundling haul during the entire first half of 2015.

The DCCC’s decision to accept this money isn’t all that surprising, given the fact that nearly half of the DCCC Chairwoman Rep. Cheri Bustos’ campaign donations came from such groups, causing Republicans to dub her “Beltway Bustos.”

Highlighting the far-left’s hypocrisy, a spokesperson for End Citizens United, one of the left’s loudest voices opposing lobbyists and corporate PACs, provided a statement to the Daily Beast that essentially gave the DCCC its blessing. That spokesman previously worked at the DCCC.

Not unlike the growing rift between DCCC leadership and the far-left over its vendor blacklist rule, this issue has the potential to drive a wedge between two factions of the Democratic Party.
