The Democratic National Committee’s Debt Nearly Exceeds the Cash it Has

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) used President Trump’s first State of the Union to try and bury their last FEC filling for 2017.

Once you see the numbers, you’ll understand why.

In December, the DNC raised just $5.2 million. In the same time frame the Republican National Committee (RNC) raised $11.1 million.

The RNC raised $132.5 million in 2017, while the DNC only raised $65.9 million.

That $65.9 million raised by the DNC in 2017 is $34 million short of the $100 million fundraising goal that DNC chair Tom Perez set earlier in the year.

Perez set the lofty goal of doubling the organization’s budget from $50 million to $100 million in 2017. The RNC reached the $100 million mark back in September.

Making matters worse for the DNC is it only has $6.3 million cash on hand and $6.1 million in debt, meaning the DNC has only $200,000 more in cash than they do in debt.

The RNC, for comparison, finished 2017 with $38.8 million cash on hand and no debt.

These horrific fundraising numbers come the day after the DNC’s CEO “abruptly quit,” according to a report by the New York Times.
