Despite efforts by Democrats and some in the media to paint President Trump’s first year in office as a failure, the reviews for 2017 are coming in and it looks like it will be a successful year for Republicans if they are successful in passing the GOP tax reform plan.

Both Rich Lowry and the Washington Examiner highlighted on Tuesday the achievements the Trump administration has made during his first year in office.

They highlighted Trump’s impressive judicial nominees, specifically Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch, Trump’s successful campaign against ISIS, the opening up the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to oil and gas exploration, and Trump’s extensive executive actions that have rolled back Obama-era regulations.

Both also noted that if Trump and Republicans are successful in passing tax reform, it would the cherry on top of an already impressive year.

Lowry said the GOP tax reform legislation is “arguably as significant on the corporate side as the Reagan reforms of 1981 were on the individual side.”

The Washington Examiner highlighted why these achievements might have gone unnoticed by some:

“President Trump is approaching the end of his first full year in office with an impressive and growing list of achievements.”

“Sadly, you may have missed this because of his incontinent tweeting, the apocalyptic warnings of the Democrats and the #resistance, and the escalating brawl between the White House and big media outlets.”

“It’s hard to see how a conventional Republican president would have done much better,” Lowry noted about President Trump’s first year.

Lowry concluded by saying that no matter what happens in the 2018 midterm elections, Republicans aren’t leaving 2017 “empty-handed.”
