ThinkProgress Calls NRA ‘White Nationalist Group of the Year’

The Center for American Progress's propaganda arm described the gun rights group as a "racist media empire."

In a tweet on Friday, ThinkProgress, an arm of the liberal advocacy group Center for American Progress (CAP), proclaimed the National Rifle Association (NRA) as the “White nationalist group of the year.”

The tweet claimed that the NRA, a gun rights organization, is building a “racist media empire” to spread its message and linked to an article on the ThinkProgress site.

The article, “The disturbing thread of white nationalism woven into the NRA’s rhetoric,” by Ian Millhiser, connected the NRA to white supremacist violence in Charlottesville in August:

The world described by NRATV, in other words, looks very much like the world white nationalists in Charlottesville must have imagined when they marched through the streets chanting “you will not replace us.” It is a world where conservative America is fading and weak. Where barbarians lurk just beyond the gate. And where the only tactic you have left may be violence.

Millhiser cited NRA’s commentary on black crime, its media network NRATV, and the shooting of Philando Castille as evidence of the group’s supposed racism.
